Introduction to Computer Animation

CGT 24100 / 3 Cr. (2 Class, 2 Lab)

This course introduces the knowledge base on which digital animation and spatial graphics are founded and developed. Emphasis will be placed on developing a working knowledge of the mechanics of 3-D geometric formats, spline-based modeling with, polygon mesh & NURBS, procedural mapping of raster images, simplified polygon modeling, rendering methods, hierarchical linking and kinematic fundamentals.


Course Outcomes

  • Explain the basic concepts of animating objects over a specific amount of time (CGT c)
  • Apply appropriate design parameters to achieve a pre-defined animation outcome(CGT a)
  • Be able to define and explain clearly production timeline needs associated with animation projects(CGT e)
  • Create animation along a timeline using various techniques such as anticipation, follow through, squash & stretch, balance, gravity, etc. for desired motion (CGT h,i)
